[Question-68] A State affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) has started a peace and rehabilitation programme for the Naxalites. The government has appealed to the extremists to abjure violence and join the process of reconciliation. Many Naxalites responded to this call and surrendered. They were given land, house, job and a relief package. All legal proceedings against them were also dropped in one go. This news was reported in the Media. However such media reports have created a furore among some sections of the society as they feel that the compensation is much more than the relief package offered to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) JAWANS who lost their lives in Naxalite ambush.

a) Discuss the ethical issues related to the rehabilitation programme launched by the state administration.
